OVER £22,000 was spent on three repairs to crash barriers at the Ballygawley Roundabout, it has been revealed.

According to Infrastructure Minister, John O'Dowd, over the space of five years, three repairs had to be made to crash barriers at the roundabout, requiring specialist contractors at a total cost of £22,003.43.

Meanwhile, in the same period, 11 potholes were repaired on the roundabout, along with six repairs to Chevrons and signs, three separate instances of road sweeping, and one gully lid that needed to be repaired.

The extent of the repairs to the roundabout - which links  Tyrone and Fermanagh- was detailed following a question by UUP MLA, Tom Elliot.

Mr. Elliot asked O'Dowd to detail the amount spent on repairs to the surface and structure of the A4 and A5 Ballygawley roundabout in the last five years.

However, Minister O'Dowd said that only three repairs - which were made to crash barriers - were accounted for in monetary terms, as this was deemed "specialist work" undertaken by external contractors.

Meanwhile, other repairs were carried out by the Department's "direct labour workforce", and records of individual repair costs aren't kept.
