Newtownbutler’s proud hosting of the Fermanagh Fleadh continued in style across last weekend, with a busy series of events for all ages attracting great interest as the week of events drew to a close.

With a strong focus on Traditional Irish music and culture, a particular highlight was the ceili in the parish hall on Saturday night, with some expertly played live music seeing more than a few jigs and fluid dancing taking place in the hall, as dancers stepped out to the toe-tapping ceili music.

While music was a common theme of the fleadh, the parade through the centre of Newtownbutler last Sunday was in a class of its own.

The weather was miserable – but the participants and onlookers were not, as there were plenty of sunny smiles despite the wet weather, as people of all ages and drawn from a plethora of local groups happily paraded through the streets, with even a Chinese Dragon helping to add to the fun.

The afternoon parade helped to wind down the Fermanagh Fleadh in damp but delighted style, with people in the area able to look proudly back on a diverse week of activities that included plenty of great music and dance, insightful talks, a night dedicated to the late Mickey McPhillips, and much more in a Fleadh to remember.
