Fermanagh commemorated the 80th anniversary of D-Day in a number of poignant and reflective events last Thursday, June 6.

Among the day’s commemorative events, Enniskillen Model Primary School welcomed Northern Ireland Secretary of State, Chris Heaton-Harris, and Joe Kennedy III, US Special Envoy to Northern Ireland, as pupils from the school showcased their knowledge about the Second World War.
Charlie Webb, a pupil at the school, had the opportunity to interview some of the special guests, including Mr. Kennedy.

A number of World War Two vehicles were present at the school, attracting much interest from the pupils and adults alike.

Mr. Kennedy greeted a number of members of the British Armed Forces who were also present at the school to help mark the historic day, and to help educate the pupils about the war, who were also keen to learn more about the events and significance of D-Day.

Mr. Heaton-Harris, Mr. Kennedy and a number of other guests congratulated the pupils on some insightful presentations, and on the depth of their knowledge about the day, why it is marked, and on their hopes for peace in a world without war.
