THE Police Ombudsman for Northern Ireland has launched an investigation into the handling of the death of a woman in her 20s.
Kelly Lynch, 23, was found dead in the Ulster Canal in Monaghan on Sunday, March 17.
A complaint has recently been lodged with the Police Ombudsman for Northern Ireland over the PSNI's handling of Ms. Lynch's death.
It is understood that it related to an alleged failure to inform Kelly’s family of her death in person.
This follows an earlier complaint to the Garda Siochana Ombudsman Commission (GSOC), relating to the Gardai’s handling of the investigation into Ms. Lynch's death.
A spokesperson from the Police Ombudsman said: "(We) can confirm that we have received a complaint and an investigation has commenced."
The PSNI said they couldn't comment on the Police Ombudsman investigation.
"As the matter is subject to a Police Ombudsman investigation, it would be inappropriate for police to comment at this time," a PSNI spokesperson said.
