Are you Ireland’s Sexiest Man? As part of the annual Lady of the Lake Festival, there is a competition under way to crown just such a remarkable man.
It is understood that attractive men from right across the island of Ireland will flock to Irvinestown in a bid to be crowned with the title.
Joe Mahon and Liam Leonard launched the competition earlier this week as they met with Impartial Reporter photographer John McVitty to strike a pose in preparation for the competition.
The two brave men stripped down to their boxer shorts and stuck on their wellie boots as they posed in a field near Irvinestown.
Mr. Mahon explained that the competition was inspired by an unlikely source, TV presenter Jeremy Clarkson, of 'Clarkson’s Farm', and formerly of 'Top Gear', who has been crowned as England’s Sexist Man.
He said: “Well, Jeremy Clarkson won the English [title] for the last two years in England; there is no 'Ireland’s Sexiest Man', so we thought we would do Ireland’s, if Jeremy Clarkson can win England’s.
“We are hoping for entries over the next couple of weeks."
Key aspects of judging will include “the body shape and the face", according to Mr. Mahon; however, there is no obligation for those entering to strip down.
When asked if it is vital to remove your clothes to enter the competition, Mr. Mahon said: “You look sexier if you remove them, and do a real, proper pose with your hands on your hips.”
He laughed: “Me and Liam Leonard have been practising all morning there.”
The event will take place during the Fair Day celebrations at the Lady of the Lake Festival on Wednesday, July 17 at Castle Irvine, Necarne.
