It was truly a family affair when four generations of the same family went on parade as part of the Star of Maguiresbridge WLOL 239 at this year’s Twelfth of July.
Pam Morrison was joined by her niece, great-niece and great-great-niece on parade. She has been on parade as part of the women’s lodge for 47 years.
Pam said: “I like getting out and meeting people and enjoying it with everybody.
“It means quite a lot. My father was in the lodges all over the years, and we kept the tradition going. His lodge, LOL 450 Maguiresbridge, is one of the oldest lodges.”
Her niece, Gerda Walmsley, has been on parade for 35 years and this year she was joined by her daughter.
Gerda said: “I like meeting different people, seeing the different lodges and hearing the bands. It’s a family affair here.”
She explained that she was greatly inspired by her aunt, Pam.
Gerda continued: "It is important to keep the family tradition in Maguiresbridge. Our grandfather passed away and we said we would always honour him by parading with his lodge."
Pam said: “Hopefully, there are more generations to come. I am the last of my generation, so it is up to these ones to keep it going.”
The youngest of the family on parade was Summer Cunningham, who was pleased to join her great-aunt and great-great-aunt on what was her second time on parade as a member of the Junior Women’s Lodge.
Summer also said that she enjoys getting out with family and the band parades.
