The 2024 Irvinestown Lady of the Lake 5k and 10k – held earlier this week on Tuesday – was a huge success, with 352 runners and walkers taking part.
This marked the largest number of participants the event has ever had in its history, with many locals from Irvinestown- and Fermanagh-based clubs taking part.
In addition, athletic clubs travelled from Monaghan, Donegal and Tyrone to take part in the running event, sponsored by TC Autos and Smyth Leslie and Co.
Led by a TC Auto car, the 10k had 167 participants along the Liscreevin and Lisnarick roads with many locals coming out to cheer the runners on and provide water on the evening.
Up front, there was a tough battle for first place, and experienced Donegal athlete Gerard Gallagher took the win, with James Naan (Enniskillen RC) closely following in second place, and Stephen Prentice in third.
The women runners were also closely placed and battled it out to the end with Joanne Campbell (Finn Valley AC) securing the win, followed by Donna Evans (Clones AC) in second and Gemma O’Callaghan in third.
In the male over-60s, Duncan Wright was first, with Bryan Bradley in second, and in the female over-60s, Jennifer Elliott was first, with and Geraldine McGandy (Maguiresbridge RC) in second.
In the out and back 5k, 185 participants took part, with Enniskillen RC’s Jamie McDonnell storming his way to first place, closely followed by Paul Callaghan in second, and Shea Carlin (Finn Valley AC) in third.
The ladies also had a close battle with Nadine McIntyre securing first place, Annabelle McKenzie (Enniskillen RC) in second and Kay Byrne (Finn Valley AC) in third.
In the male U-18s, David McClean was first, Alex Irvine second. and in the female U-18s, Grainne Gallagher was first and Moya Magee second.
In the male over-60s, Albert Law was first with John Sheridan in second; in the female over-60s Noreen Bonner (Finn Valley AC) was first and Helen Gilmour second.
Due to the support and sponsorship of TC Autos and Smyth Leslie and Co, for the first time ever at this event there was cash prizes for all category winners.
Ross Maguire represented TC Autos and presented the 10k prizes, and Niall Smyth and Michael Leslie, from Smyth Leslie and Co, presented the 5k prizes.
