One of the most popular events of this year’s Lady of the Lake Festival was the donkey derby which took place on Sunday, July 14 at Castle Irvine, Necarne.
The event has now become a firm favourite in the festival calendar, and once again drew in a large crowd of spectators, who were all keen to see the various races take place in the historic grounds of Castle Irvine.
The weather was fair and a range of noble steeds in various hues were ready for the off, wearing their bridles but no saddles.
The good-natured event saw the donkeys giving it their best – or simply stop in their tracks, showing an independent streak, to the delight of onlookers.
Among those who enjoyed a ride on a donkey was Nicola Johnston, who was on hand to congratulate the winners of the race.
Following the donkey derby, there were a number of family activities including races for all the family, and amusements.
