Police are looking for any witness information following vandalism to the Seán South and Feargal O’Hanlon memorial, situated at the Altawark Crossroads in the Brookeborough area.
The monument commemorating the two IRA members, who were killed after an attack on the Brookeborough barracks in 1957, has been defaced with paint.
Police received a report of criminal damage to the monument in the Teigs Hill Road area today.
They are treating the criminal damage as a sectarian hate crime and believe the incident happened overnight with enquiries ongoing.
Speaking on the incident, Sinn Féin councillor Sheamus Greene posted on Facebook: “The monument commemorating Fergal O'Hanlon and Sean South at Altawark Crossroads Roslea was paint bombed last night.
"This sectarian attack didn't go unnoticed by locals, as it is believed that the car involved was spotted and it's number plate noted.”
Police have asked any witnesses or anyone with information to contact them on 101, quoting reference number 618 of 18/07/24.
