Infrastructure Minister John O'Dowd has acknowledged the pressing need for improved grass-cutting at rural junctions and sightlines within the Fermanagh and Omagh district.
Responding to concerns raised by the Council, Minister O'Dowd confirmed that an extensive grass-cutting programme has been initiated to enhance road safety.
In a letter to Ms. Alison McCullagh, Chief Executive of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, which is expected to be raised at tonight's Council meeting, Minister O'Dowd addressed the Council’s request for comprehensive grass-cutting services.
This followed a meeting on May 7, 2024, where councillors highlighted numerous rural junctions that were particularly problematic due to overgrown vegetation, urging immediate action for the health and safety of road users.
Minister O'Dowd explained that the Department’s Roads Division had already provided the Council with the details of the verge management policy, outlining the grass-cutting operations and the expected service levels for the season. Grass-cutting activities commenced on June 3, 2024, in line with his Department's policy.
"Grass-cutting operations are prioritised, with additional cutting where necessary at junctions and other critical areas to maintain visibility," Minister O'Dowd stated.
