INFASTRUCTURE Minister John O’Dowd has pledged to address the ongoing flooding issues in West Tyrone, detailing several flood alleviation schemes currently in progress.
Minister O’Dowd has announced that feasibility studies are underway in both Omagh and Strabane to identify economically viable solutions for river flooding. These studies are expected to be completed by the end of 2024.
A review of potential flood alleviation measures for Sion Mills is also set to begin later this year, with completion anticipated early in 2025.
In addition, the design phase for the Elm Wood Green Flood Alleviation Scheme in Erganagh, Castlederg, has commenced and is projected to be finished by this autumn.
These initiatives underscore the department's commitment to mitigating flood risks and enhancing the resilience of communities in West Tyrone against future flooding events.
