An Enniskillen man is set to take on a starring role at the International Edinburgh Festival Fringe later this month as he debuts a new comedy about mental health, Ryan Moohan will join with Letty Celotti to present Two Friends and Social Anxiety which will debut at the fringe later this week.
Performances will take place at TheSpace on the Mile, Space 2, Fringe Central (Venue 39) from August 5 -10.
Two lifelong friends are invited to a party but they are both socially anxious. As they try to come up with the perfect excuse to bail, they take the audience on a journey through the daily struggles of living with social anxiety.
From the dread of awkward small talk with colleagues to the breakdown of their closest relationships, characters convey through a comedic lens how broadly mental health can impact a person’s life.
The creators said: “Two Friends and Social Anxiety was created to prove that it’s okay to talk about mental health (and why not make a show about it?) and that it’s okay not to be okay.
“ The show uses observational comedy to address the theme of mental health instead of offering a self-loathing, heart-breaking portrayal of depression. Retrospectively, there is a lot of comedy in social anxiety and many people can connect to that.
“We’ve all spent a day in bed watching Netflix in our PJs and eating junk food with a glass of wine while feeling alone and sad…and alone, right?
“This play is for anyone interested in mental health and refreshing comedy theatre.”
Writers and cast members Ryan Moohan and Letty Celotti met in drama school in 2018. After landing some acting roles, they both suffered some roadblocks and eventually had to take a step back.
After about a year break, they decided to create their own quirky piece of work and ended up writing a lighthearted insight into social anxiety.
They say that this project was a way to get themselves back into performing and use their experiences to help others while focusing on their own mental health.
