Schoolchildren across Fermanagh have been expressing their views on farming and related activities in a range of classes featuring writing, design and craftwork in the Fermanagh County Show Schools’ Exhibition, which went on view last weekend.
This was the only public event organised by Fermanagh Farming Society this year.
More than 100 classes on handwriting, poetry and artwork were sponsored by Gary Black of GRB Solicitors, Forthill Street, Enniskillen, while some art and design and essays and poetry in selected classes were sponsored by the Vaughan Trust.
In addition to the prize cards placed on the winning entries, a number of cups will be awarded to winning schools at a prizegiving event later this year.
One of the eye-catching competitions was to “Design a Front Cover of the Catalogue” featuring honey bees.
The winning entrant was by Milita Orlova from Enniskillen Model PS.
The other finalists were Ella Armstrong, Lisbellaw PS; Zac Robinson and Kean Neones, Model PS and Archie Willis and Charlie Beacom, Lisbellaw PS.
One of the classes asked pupils to write their views on: “Dear Diary ... What an adventure we had on the farm this week”.
Another class asked them to “Design a Leaflet of 4-8 pages on an environmental topic related to agriculture”.
The winner had an imaginative design with the heading, ‘Impacts of Sustainable Farming’.
Many of the entries were beautifully produced with some stunning designs on their front covers.
