IRVINE Memorial Pipe Band have been crowned Grade 4 winners at the World Pipe band Championships in Glasgow.
The Clabby-based band received an early-morning draw in the grade 4A heat two qualifier last Saturday morning, and then progressed to the final against 12 bands from around the world.
Following a stellar performance, the band were crowned world champions in Grade 4 later that evening.
The band is currently led by Pipe Major, Neil Stronge, and leading drummer, Nicky Armstrong. Both are immensely proud of the band's achievement.
"As Pipe Major I am more than proud of everyone involved with the band," said Mr. Stronge.
"As a piper, there is something so special about the Worlds. It's that competition that you really want to do well in.
"Although we have had a decent enough season and had other success along the way, the Worlds is the one that I will remember most."
A special homecoming was then held on Sunday, with supporters welcoming the band upon their return to Fivemiletown.
"I am proud to have such community support. When we returned to our local town on Sunday evening was special," Mr. Stronge continued.
"It's an achievement that will not be forgotten about for a long time!"
Mr. Stronge added that the recent success is a "team effort", and that it wouldn't have been possible without the hard work and dedication of every single piper and drummer.
"I am so lucky to have surrounded myself with good pipers both playing in the band and advising from outside," he said.
"From a drumming perspective, our leading drummer, Nicky Armstrong, has done an unbelievable job in building a drum core capable of this great result. So, I am happy that they get this result as well."
The Pipe Major added that the band can now reflect on an immensely successful season.
"It is now time to reflect and enjoy the success of the season including being crowned Ulster and All Ireland Champions," Mr. Strong added.
"Where we go from here is another upgrade into Grade 3, but that is a conversation for another time.
"For now, we're delighted and we will enjoy the occasion!"
