This year's Lough Melvin Open Trout fishing competition once again drew an accomplished gathering of anglers together at the weekend, with more than 40 boats leaving the Garrison and Lough Melvin Anglers Association clubhouse on the competition's first day.
Organisers wished everyone "tight lines and wet nets" as they set off, with Sunday's final seeing some great competition from the men and women angling for the best catches of the day.
The summer's generally poor weather brought some challenging conditions to the lough, but in the end the winners of the 44th Melvin Open were declared as Brendan Shallow and James Quinn, with club Chairman Terry McGovern delighted to present two newly-commissioned DC boats to them, also offering David Connor and Hugh McCloy Jnr some well-earned congratulations as runners-up.
