A TALENTED young electrical from Bellanaleck is set to travel to Lyon to compete in the global WorldSkills competition.
Daniel Knox, 22, will go up against competitors from 35 countries within the field of electrical installation from September 10 to September 15.
He will be tested on the installation of containment and wire ways for cabling, wiring fuse boards, and installing and programming of SMART automation.
The challenge will be timed, which will see the former apprentice putting the skills he has earned as part of his role with GP Electrical and Security to the test.
"It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!" said Daniel, who is part of a five-strong United Kingdom team from a myriad of trades who will travel to France.
"To say you are representing the whole of the UK for electrical installations, against the rest of the world, will be a massive achievement in itself."
He continued: "I will be aiming to win, but I also understand that competition will be stiff, and it will all come down to how it goes on the day.
"I really hope that I can come back saying I did well, but you just don't know what way it will go."
As a former electrical student at South West College, Daniel has worked hard to hone his trade and learn new skills.
He has taken part in a number of competitions overseas, to date, including the EuroSkills competition in Poland last year.
"All in all, I am really looking forward to it," said Daniel, who will take time out of his busy job to attend the competition.
"I can't wait to compete against others from the same skilled profession from around the world, while meeting new people as well.
"It will also be a great opportunity to see Lyon, and I can't wait to take in the sheer scale of the event!"
The WorldSkills competition will host more than 1,500 young people from more than 65 countries, who will compete in 62 different skill disciplines.
