AN adorable pup that was found abandoned in Maguiresbridge has already found a loving new home.

Hugo, five-month-old Chihuahua and King Charles cross, was found with three other dogs on the Curryann Road, Maguiresbridge, earlier this week.

All four dogs had been abandoned and were rescued by Lost Paws NI, assisted by the Council Dog Warden.

One of the dogs, Hugo has since been adopted by his adoring new owner, Fiona McClintock, from Fintona, while the other dogs are being supported by the Dogs Trust.

Ms. McClintock, who works in Lisbellaw Veterinary Clinic and volunteers with Lost Paws NI, said: "On Monday, (Lost Paws NI) called into the clinic and said that they had been made aware of the abandoned dogs in Maguiresbridge.

"The dogs were wild and had to be trapped, and we managed to catch the last one last night (Thursday)."

Ms. McClintock, who helped catch the abandoned dogs, said  she immediately "fell in love" with Hugo.

"I had actually lost my dog to a tumour around three-months-ago," she explained.

"She was a Chihuahua and King Charles cross, and I never have seen her breed again since.

"That was until I came across Hugo! I was blown away when I the exact same breed as my last dog.

"I fell in love instantly. I knew that I was going to give him a home. It was a happy ending!"

Ms. McClintock added  that all of the dogs were found in a neglected condition, which she described as "heartbreaking".

"The five of them had been dumped," she explained. "They weren't neutered. They weren't wormed. They all had lice. It was heartbreaking.

"It was reported that they had been thrown out and had been living in a shed in a field.

Despite these tough circumstances, Hugo has been settling in to his new surroundings.

"He is settling in well, even though he is traumatised," Ms. McClintock concluded.

"He has been following me around like a lap dog since he came. He is the most loving wee thing!"
