In the close-knit community of Derrin Road, where friendships are treasured and neighbours become like family, few stood out like Brendan Hynes, fondly known as Brendy.

His warm spirit and selflessness left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to know him.

Neil Reid, a dear friend and neighbour, fondly recalls the many ways Brendy enriched the lives of everyone around him.

"Brendy was a neighbour and a good friend. He had lots and lots of good friends, a wonderful family, and a girlfriend," Neil said.

"I’ve known him for years, but we only became good friends when I moved back to Derrin Road. He didn’t have any grass in his garden, but he had a lawnmower and would cut his neighbours' grass. He always looked after his neighbours."

Neil reflected on Brendy's generosity: "If he had two saws, he’d give me one. Two hammers? He’d say, ‘I have two,’ and bring one over to me. In the summer, we would go around and clean up the bottles and cans around Riverside. He was all about looking after the area."

"As with all his friends and family, we all laughed, we cried, we had fun. I will miss him, as will everyone on Derrin Road. R.I.P., Brendy," Neil added.

Brendan's funeral will take place on Tuesday, September 3 at 10.30am in St. Michael's Church, Enniskillen followed by burial in Breandrum Cemetery.

The Mass will also be viewable via St. Michael's Parish Webcam.
