COMPREHENSIVE redevelopment of the PSNI site in Enniskillen was named a "key opportunity" within the Enniskillen Town Centre Masterplan 2012.
In 2024, the station is still being used by the PSNI and none of the suggestions made in the plan have materialised.
Almost 12 years ago, the Masterplan proposed that the site should be developed, in part, as a new facility for the town, with an events/conference facility with potential for cafes, restaurants and a cinema suggested.
At the time, a hotel was also proposed.
"The existing historic PSNI buildings would be retained and converted for use as a hotel", the plan read.
"The two uses would be complimentary, set within a new town Park which would complement and add to the open spaces of Fort Hill and Broadmeadow."
It was recommended that the proposed "town centre hotel" would be four-star and have 100 bedrooms, as well as associated spa, dining and leisure facilities.
The Masterplan added: "Assuming growth in the tourism sector over the plan period, there needs to be suitable accommodation available within the town centre to accommodate demand.
"The most obvious location for a hotel would be close to the waterside, for example, on the site of the PSNI complex."
Another option for the PSNI site was a "new waterside leisure and conference facility, with cafe and restaurant set within the new town park."
The document outlined that redevelopment of the PSNI site was dependent on the former Fermanagh District Council leading the promotion of a new shared services hub on the former Erne Hospital site.
