The only thing brighter than the colours of the rainbow flag was the sun in the sky as the Enniskillen Pride parade got underway today.

The first Pride Parade to beFermanagh took place earlier this afternoon, Saturday, September 7.

A large crowd watched the parade as it travelled through town centre.

Prior to the parade and during the procession, around 20 people took part in a religious demonstration in the Diamond area of town.

The parade was led by Irvinestown’s hotellier, Joe Mahon and featured a large number of groups who walked from East Bridge Street to Enniskillen Castle.

As they paraded the group were met with cheers and clapping as they smiled and waved at those enjoying the atmosphere.

Celebrations continued at Enniskillen Castle with further events planned for this evening.

One young gay man who attended the parade told this newspaper: “I was astounded by the size of the crowds in the street and in the parade and the great atmosphere that came with it.

“I never thought this would happen in Fermanagh.”
