ONE of Lord Elliott of Ballinamallard's first engagements has involved an initiative to back British farming.
Lord Elliot attended the Back British Farming Day at Westminster, along with Ulster Unionist Party (UUP) politicians, Robin Swann MP and Lord Empey.
Reflecting on the event, Lord Elliot said: “Being involved in the agricultural sector I am only too aware of how important it is that United Kingdom has a productive farming industry.
"It is critical aim that the UK is self-sufficient in food production and not reliant in food production and trade deals from countries that do not have as high animal welfare standards as we have in the United Kingdom.
“The industry is facing many challenges in the years ahead with climate change and stringent new environmental regulations. The Government need to be reminded of the key role agriculture businesses play in the delivering growth for the country."
