An ultra-endurance Fermanagh athlete is set to swim 50km in 24 hours for charity.
Sean Conway plans to swim the lower Lough Erne from Devenish to Belleek.
The swim is scheduled for the weekend of September 21 and 22 and will begin at Trory Jetty at 7am.
Planned rest stops will take place periodically, with progress and timing updates posted on the Fear the Turtle page.
The route will include Manor House, Rossigh, Castle Archdale, Muckross, Boa Island, Ross Harbour, and Rossco’s Bridge.
Mr. Conway completed 30 triathlons in 30 days in 2017, a feat that took 56 hours to complete.
He says this swim is his most demanding challenge to date, requiring both mental and physical endurance.
His family will be providing support throughout the swim, which will include canoe assistance and food aid.
The swim is being undertaken to raise awareness and funds for three charities; Ellie’s Retreat, F13k Cancer, and The Simba Charity.
These charities hold significant meaning for Mr. Conway and his family.
His father, Patrick, was treated for cancer at the South West Acute Hospital.
Mr. Conway and his wife, Donna, have also experienced the loss of their baby.
The Simba Charity provided a memory box for the grieving family, while Ellie’s Retreat offers bereaved families access to a safe space retreat in Castle Archdale.
Mr. Conway has also received support from the Fear the Turtle Triathlon community.
He expressed his gratitude for their generosity and offers of help on the day.
This includes Barry from Dunrunnin Group Accommodation, Tim, and other members of the Lough Erne Yacht Club.
