A WOMAN who was caught drink driving near Kesh has been disqualified for a year.

Katie McCann (30) of Boa Island Road, Belleek appeared at Enniskillen Magistrate's Court on Monday, September 23.

She was facing a single charge of drink driving on July 19 of this year, while charges of failing to stop for police, and failing to provide a specimen of breath, were withdrawn.

A prosecutor told the court how on July 19, police on the Killadeas Road were overtaken by a White Ford Focus travelling in the direction of Kesh.

Police noted how the car was swerving on the road, and crossed over a white line.

Officers activated blue lights and sirens and stopped the car.

When they spoke with the driver, McCann, officers noted that her eyes were glazed and speech slurred.

A breath test was carried out, which returned an excess reading.

McCann was arrested and taken into custody, but did not provide a further specimen.

Solicitor Michael Fahy said the incident has "weighed very heavily" on his client, and that she was "under no illusions" about the offence.

Mr. Fahy added that McCann had been experiencing a "difficult time" when the offence took place.

The solicitor said that McCann had a clear record, and it was highly unlikely that McCann would be seen back before the court in the future.

He asked District Judge, Alana McSorley, to be as lenient as possible, as a licence was "an integral part of her (McCann's) employment".

The Judge imposed a 12-month disqualification and a fine of £300, with £15 offender levy.
