A community group is set to delve into the past with a history presentation.
The Derrynoose Banner Restoration Committee is hosting a local history presentation in the community centre on Friday, October 11 at 8pm.
The event features two main presentations.
Lily Clifford will present a light-hearted account of encounters with fairies, stories of lone bushes, superstitions, banshees, cures, and customs.
Ms Clifford's presentation is based on archive material from The Irish Folklore Commission of the 1930s, which holds thousands of references to fairies, banshees, witches, and other folkloric elements.
She links these tales to local and national happenings and beliefs.
John Makem will then present the detailed story of the Derrynoose Parish Banner, which is currently being refurbished.
The banner, an emblem of the identity and heritage of the Derrynoose people, features imagery and symbolism with Brian Boru on one side and the Maid of Erin on the other.
The banner, along with the local band, played a significant role in celebrations at both local and national levels, including the Golden Jubilee of the GAA in 1934 and the major commemorations of the 300th anniversary of the death of a chieftain in Cavan in 1949.
Mr. Makem's presentation will be enriched with stories collected from attendees at these events, newspaper reports, and connections made with other communities with shared experiences.
The evening will conclude with tea, homemade bread and jams, followed by a traditional session and gathering in the bar.
