A FERMANAGH driver was arrested when a roadside Drug Wipe Test returned positive results for cocaine and cannabis.
The arrest is the first that has been made since local police started using the wipe test system.
A PSNI spokesperson said: "On Friday afternoon, the District Support Team took part in a Rural Crime Operation in the Fermanagh area.
"The team observed a vehicle acting suspiciously in the Irvinestown Road area of Enniskillen.
"Following speaking to the driver, the team carried out a search under Section 23 Misuse of Drugs Act.
"During the search we noticed empty bags with trace white powder and a rolled bank note with white powder."
The spokesperson continued: "In a first for the district and potentially in the PSNI, DST used our new roadside Drug Wipe Test which returned positive results for Cocaine and Cannabis in the drivers system.
"As a result of this, the driver was arrested for Driving Whilst Unfit Through Drugs and is bailed for a forensic test of the blood sample."
We will continue in our endeavours to make our roads safer and hopefully remove such individuals from the roads.
