The Joan Trimble Bursary Awards are now open for applications.

Administered by The Fermanagh Trust, the awards were established in 2002 to honour the dedication of the Enniskillen-born musician and composer, Joan Trimble.

The bursaries aim to support young people in music, creativity, the performing arts, and Irish culture.

They offer financial assistance for specialist education, training sessions, courses, and international cultural programmes.

Additional opportunities include participation in master classes and summer schools.

Eligible applicants must be up to and including 25 years of age, reside in Fermanagh, have been in full-time education in Fermanagh, or be attending university or higher education while maintaining official residency in Fermanagh.

The deadline for applications is November 1.

Previous recipients have used the funding for various purposes, such as acquiring musical instruments, lessons, and attending master classes.

Dáire Dunn was awarded a bursary to attend a Tradfest master class in Belfast, which helped him secure first place in the U12 Fiddle category at the Ulster Fleadh.

Liz McVey, granddaughter of Joan Trimble and chairperson of the Bursary Awards, said: "We are proud to have supported so many talented young people over the years, helping them to access unique experiences that have been pivotal in their development.

"Dáire’s achievement is a perfect example of how these bursaries can prepare young musicians for success."

Bursaries of up to £1,000 per academic year are available, with the possibility of a higher award in exceptional circumstances.
