Two community groups from Fermanagh have secured a share of €560,242 in cross-border funds to tackle climate action.

The ARC Healthy Living Centre, based in Irvinestown, is one of the two groups.

The funding was awarded as part of Galway City Council's initiative to support 19 community groups with the funding for climate action projects.

This initiative, supported by the Department of Environment, Climate and Communications, aims to create low-carbon, climate-resilient communities with a sustainable future.

Of this total, €114,352 was allocated to four projects involving two community groups in Galway City and two in Fermanagh, including the ARC Healthy Living Centre.

The ARC Healthy Living Centre was awarded €90,372 for their collaborative Galway and Fermanagh Climate Action Project with the DRA Family Resource Centre, Doughiska, Galway City.

Jenny Irvine, Chief Executive Officer of ARC, said: "This development presents us with enormous opportunities for understanding how climate action will improve health.

"Our renewable energy, local food production, biodiversity enhancing measures and the promotion of cycling will contribute by providing cleaner air, energy security, healthier foods, sustainable and active transportation, and building more walkable, inclusive and liveable communities.

"It has been a please working with DRA family resource centre, we have lots to learn from and share with this Galway project."

Tiarnan McCusker, community climate action officer with Galway City Council, added: "Galway City Council believe that this fund can be used as a springboard for further community climate actions and we look forward to working with the individual projects, right across our shared island."
