Enniskillen school pupils attended an 'insightful' discussion where they examined the upcoming US election.

The event, held at Enniskillen Royal Grammar School on October 22, was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Enniskillen.

It provided a platform for pupils to examine the upcoming US Presidential election and what it might mean for politics, security and human rights.

The session, chaired by Aideen McGinley, featured a discussion with the US Consul General, James Applegate, offering students a chance to understand the election process and cast a proxy vote.

Reflecting the heightened interest in the US election, the students engaged Mr. Applegate with challenging questions and thanked him for the enlightening experience.

Ewan Megahey, a pupil at ERGS said: "I found the discussion with Mr. Applegate very useful in giving me a view into politics in the US.

"I talked with him afterwards about his work in Kabul, and it gave me a great insight into how careful a government has to be in all scenarios.

"I hope I can apply this later when I’m writing my exams this summer."
