A DRUNK driver caught police attention after clipping a pavement on the Cornagrade Road, a court has heard.

Sinead McGovern (38) of Cloverhill, Enniskillen was sentenced at Enniskillen Magistrates Court on Monday.

A prosecutor told the court how on October 6 at around 3.20am, police detected a black Toyota Camry being driven near Erne Drive in Enniskillen.

Police began to follow the vehicle toward Carnmore Rise, and observed it hitting a kerb before making a left-hand turn.

Officers stopped the driver, McGovern, and noted a strong smell of alcohol.

McGovern failed a preliminary breath test, and further checks revealed that she didn't have a valid license or insurance policy.

She was arrested and taken into custody, where a further breath test revealed a reading of 88 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath.

McGovern's solicitor said that, on the date of the incident, she had friends over to her house and had consumed alcohol.

When one of her friends left, she made the "very foolish" decision to drive in an attempt to locate her.

The solicitor added that McGovern had been facing "difficult mental health issues" at the time of the incident.

Deputy District Judge Browne described McGovern's actions as "extremely foolish" and said that he had "significant concerns about her well-being".

For the offence of drink driving, the judge disqualified McGovern from driving for one year and imposed a £200 fine, and a further £200 for driving without insurance. For driving without a valid license, a fine of £50 was imposed.

The judge warned: "I urge you to draw a line under this offending."
