Beyond the Call Project is set to host an activity to foster meaningful connections for people throughout Fermanagh, Omagh and Strabane areas.

The Project will be participating in Befriending Week, which is an annual celebration from November 1 to 7 that raises awareness of the importance of friendships and combating loneliness.

Befriending Week is a national initiative that encourages people and communities to connect and support each other through friendship.

As part of this year's celebrations, Beyond the Call Project will be hosting a Teatime Together event.

Geraldine Keys, manager of the Beyond the Call Project, said: "Befriending Week is a time to reflect on the importance of connection in our lives.

"As we continue to navigate challenges that can make people feel isolated, fostering friendships becomes more important than ever.

"We believe everyone deserves someone to talk to and a sense of belonging, and we are committed to promoting these values in our community."

Befriending is known to have significant effects on well-being, mental health, and overall happiness.

Studies shows that strong social connections help reduce loneliness and improve physical and emotional health.

Beyond the Call Project has been at the forefront of connecting isolated individuals with caring volunteers, offering support, companionship, and a listening ear.

The project is encouraging people to get involved in Befriending Week by volunteering as a befriender, spreading the word on social media using the hashtag #BefriendingWeek, or by reaching out to neighbours.

For more information about the Befriending Week activities, or to learn how to become a befriender, people are encouraged to visit the Omagh Volunteer Centre website or contact Rita O’Loughlin on 0759 138 6189 or rita@thebefriendhub.org.
