The victorious Erne Gaels have had their achievements noted in the Northern Ireland Assembly.

Erne Gaels beat Enniskillen Gaels  1-13 to 1-09 in a thriller of a final in Brewster Park on Saturday evening ending a 43-year wait for the Belleek club.

Belleek native and Fermanagh South Tyrone MLA Jemma Dolan congratulated the team from the chamber in Stormont.

She said: “This is the first time the New York Cup has been in Belleek since 1981. But we don’t just celebrate a trophy. We celebrate the heart, grit, and relentless spirit of our players. Every training session, every sacrifice, and every ounce of energy poured into this season was for this moment—and they have made us all so, so proud.

"I want to thank the coaches, the backroom staff, the volunteers, and of course, the loyal fans. It shows what’s possible when we stand together as a community. You’ve made history, and you’ve given us all a moment we will never forget."

The Fermanagh and South Tyrone MLA concluded: “However, I have many friends in Enniskillen and therefore I commiserate with Enniskillen Gaels and congratulate them on giving us one of the most exciting Senior County Finals Fermanagh has ever seen.”
