This Christmas season, two local charities - Fermanagh Women’s Aid, and Action for Children - are rallying to make sure that no child wakes up without a gift under the tree.

These organisations are working tirelessly to bring holiday joy to families in the Fermanagh and Omagh areas, where more than 25 per cent of families are currently living in poverty due to the ongoing cost-of-living crisis.

Action for Children, a charity supporting families across Northern Ireland and the United Kingdom, focuses on ensuring that all children experience a safe and happy childhood.

Locally, the charity’s Early Intervention Family Support Service offers tailored assistance for families in need.

Recognising the extra strain that financial hardship places on families during the holidays, Action for Children is asking for the community's support to create memorable Christmas moments for children.

"We want every child to feel the magic of Christmas, which can create happy memories that last a lifetime," said a spokesperson for the charity.

Community members are encouraged to leave new, unwrapped gifts or vouchers suitable for children aged 0-17 at the Barnabus Centre, No. 14 Darling Street, Enniskillen, BT74 7EW.

Donations will be accepted until Monday, December 9, to allow time for distribution.

The charity can also be reached at 02866 324 181 for more information.

Paul Kellagher, Services Manager at Action for Children, said: "We are seeing a continuing increase in child poverty. Your donation to our Secret Santa appeal will help local children and families who are struggling this Christmas.”

Meanwhile, Fermanagh Women’s Aid is also stepping up to assist families impacted by poverty and domestic challenges this holiday season.

The organisation, which advocates for the empowerment and dignity of women, is focusing on giving women the ability to choose gifts for themselves and their children.

They encourage donations that allow recipients to make personal choices, reflecting the charity’s commitment to women’s independence.

Community members who wish to support this initiative can donate via Fermanagh Women’s Aid’s Enthuse page at https://tinyurl.com/2zeedy5z.

The charity also accepts direct contributions at their centre at No. 19 Darling Street, Enniskillen, BT74 7DP, and can be reached at 028 6632 8898 for additional details.

Additional support options include vouchers from local businesses, monetary donations, toiletries, pyjamas, winter clothing, and toys, with all donations requested by Friday, December 20.

Both organisations are united in their mission to bring the spirit of Christmas to families facing financial challenges this season.

For residents of the Fermanagh and Omagh area, this is an opportunity to contribute to a meaningful cause that promises to brighten the holiday season for children and their families.
