RURAL Support is hosting a key roadshow in Enniskillen on December 5, as part of its Farming for the Generations pilot scheme.
The event is one of six in-person workshops taking place across the region, alongside two online sessions, to support farmers in navigating the complex process of generational transition.
The 'Passing the Torch – Planning for Generations to Come' roadshow, led by Rural Support, will offer practical advice on topics such as succession strategies, legal considerations, family communication, and available support services.
The initiative is part of DAERA’s new Farm Support and Development Programme, which was launched last month by Minister Andrew Muir.
The programme follows a three-phase approach: planning for succession, developing successors, and ongoing support through the transition.
The pilot will select 60 farm families to develop succession plans and business reviews.
The scheme also offers opportunities for farmers seeking alternative succession options, such as partnerships with new entrants.
Kevin Doherty, Chief Executive Officer of Rural Support, stressed the importance of succession planning for the future resilience of farming.
The workshops are free to attend and will provide valuable insights for families looking to secure the long-term success of their farm businesses.
