As the year comes to a close, Kathleen Breen - a dedicated leader of the Carrosyl Community Association - reflects on a year marked by both challenges and moments of joy, while looking ahead with renewed determination for 2025.

While the past year presented a setback in the long-awaited quest for a new community centre, Kathleen remains optimistic about the future.

The project, which was initially hoped to be completed in 2024, faced further delays due to funding challenges with the Department of Education.

“It has been disappointing for all of us in the Carrosyl community,” says Kathleen, “but we’re not giving up.

"We will keep pushing for alternative funding and work tirelessly to secure a space where all ages in the community can gather and enjoy activities.”

Despite the challenges, there’s much to look forward to this festive season. Kathleen is excited about Carrosyl’s annual Christmas party, set for Sunday, December 8, at Share Holiday Village.

The event will bring the community together, with a focus on celebrating the older members, though entertainment will be provided for families of all ages.

After the event, Kathleen will enjoy a quieter holiday, surrounded by her growing family, with nine grandchildren now bringing plenty of joy and energy to her celebrations.

Looking ahead to 2025, Kathleen’s intentions remain focused on strengthening her community.

“I hope for a prosperous year ahead for my family, my friends, and my community,” she says, “and I will continue to do everything I can to make our community centre a reality.”

With determination and a heart full of hope, Kathleen is ready to face the challenges of the coming year, always with her community's wellbeing at the forefront.
