DURING Remembrance week, Enniskillen man Eddie Brogan takes time to remember the service and sacrifices of his family members who fought in the Second World War.

Over the years, Eddie has often thought about the men and women in his family who volunteered to serve, whether in the deserts and jungles, on the high seas, or across mainland Europe.

“These were people who answered the call, volunteered, and served with pride. After the war, they returned to 'civvy street', struggling to pick up where they left off, quietly reintegrating into society without seeking recognition,” Eddie reflected. “They got on with their lives, but I believe they should be remembered.”

Eddie’s father, Edward Brogan, served as an Leading Aircraftman (L.A.C.) with Field Unit 103 and M.A.R.U. (Medical Air Rescue Unit) in the RAF.

Other family members who served include Philip Corrigan, Squadron Leader in the RAF; Bridie Corrigan, Leading Medical Officer in the RAF; James Corrigan, Captain in the Inniskillings; Fintan Corrigan, Regimental Sergeant Major in the Inniskillings; John Brogan, Squadron Leader in the RAF; and Owen Corrigan, who served in the Merchant Navy.

For Eddie, these names represent more than just family - they embody the dedication, sacrifice, and resilience of all those who served, both during the war and in the years that followed.

Their contributions, while often unsung, are integral to the fabric of history, and Eddie believes they should never be forgotten.
