STAFF, pupils, and parents at Fivemiletown Primary School & Nursery Unit recently brightened up the dark November mornings with a successful ‘Ditch the Dark’ day, aimed at promoting road safety and visibility during the winter months.
As the days grow shorter and mornings remain dark and dreary, the school wanted to reinforce the importance of being seen while walking or cycling to school. On the day of the event, the entire school community embraced the theme by dressing up in bright, colourful clothes to stand out and raise awareness about road safety. From neon jackets to reflective vests, the children, teachers, and parents made sure they were as visible as possible.
The event wasn’t just about fun—it was an important opportunity to highlight the message of ‘Be Bright, Be Seen.’ Staff encouraged pupils to think about their safety during the darker months, especially as many children walk or cycle to school when visibility can be low. The bright clothing served as a practical reminder to everyone of how they can stay safe while travelling to and from school.
The day was a huge success, with both students and staff enjoying the fun and creative outfits while learning valuable lessons about road safety. It was a wonderful community effort that not only brought the school together but also reinforced important safety messages for the winter months ahead.
By hosting the ‘Ditch the Dark’ event, Fivemiletown Primary School & Nursery Unit has once again shown its commitment to promoting both safety and fun for its students.
