An eight-year-old girl from Enniskillen may be one of Fermanagh’s youngest authors.

Amelia Greene has published her two books based on her grandparents, Johnny and Gabrielle Weaver from Newtownbuter.

The books are titled, ‘My Granda is so Silly’ and ‘My Nanny is Lovely’ and tell a story about Amelia’s two grandparents. The books are completed with illustrations based on Amelia’s doodles that she sent to publisher, KiddyInks.

The book was launched at The Workhouse in Enniskillen recently. In attendance were members of Amelia’s class from Holy Trinity Primary School.

Asked about the writing process, Amelia said: “I started writing, I think I was seven. I did them on a piece of paper.”

Opening her book up, she proudly turns the page: "I started this one first, Granda. That was the first person I thought of.

“He’s so funny, he makes jokes, granddad jokes.

“I decided at the same time to write about them both”

When asked about her grandparents' reaction, Amelia said:  “Granda said wow and nanny said yay!"

The books are peppered with hand-drawn pictures. Discussing the inspiration behind them, Amelia said: “I like kitty cats and love hearts, granda likes trees and natures and nanny likes strawberries.

“And there are books for nanny as she likes reading.”

She said writing the book took “a few minutes” but she did spend some time trying to make the books rhyme.

Her mum, Emma Weaver explained that Amelia came into her office one day and just began writing the book on A4 pieces of paper.

Amelia is delighted with the reaction to the book: “Mummy is proud and granny and granda are happy.”

The schoolgirl took inspiration from her mum who is a businesswoman and an author.

She said: “I want to be like mummy, mummy is an author too.”

Emma explained that the books were published through a literary scheme in Australia, the KiddyInks programme.

“Kiddy Inks is primarily based in Australia and it is worldwide and gives children the opportunity to explore literature”, she said.

Amelia was speaking ahead of her book launch and said she was excited for the event, adding: “I can eat sweeties and I like the Workhouse too. My whole class is coming to the book launch.”

When asked for her advice to any aspiring authors, she added: “They should make books because it’s fun.”

The books, ‘My Granda is so Funny’ and ‘My Nanny is so Lovely’ by Amelia Greene can be purchased from Waterstones, Amazon, and Barnes and Noble.
