We catch up with Kesh Community Carnival committee member Tracey Bratton who looks back on 2024 and what she thought of it to date as well as what’s going on in Kesh this Christmas.
Looking back on the past year, what moments stand out to you, and why?
"Personally, the two moments that stand out to me about 2024 are the birth of my Niece / God-daughter Nellie and taking our first family holiday together in seven years. My sister & her family, my mum & my auntie also joined us.
"We had an amazing holiday and created lasting memories. Christmas Eve is usually spent doing some last-minute shopping, catching up with my in-laws and exchanging gifts.
"Then it’s home to prepare for the arrival of Santa Claus with our girls Vivian & Esmae.
"My family and I spend Christmas Day at my Mum’s house. We all share the cooking which takes some pressure off & allows more time for important festivities.
"This is my niece’s first Christmas so that makes it extra special this year."
Were there any challenges or surprises this year that taught you something valuable or shifted your perspective?
"Thankfully I didn’t face too many difficult challenges this year, which I am extremely grateful for. Recent years have not been so kind.
"As a family, we suffered a huge loss when my brother Dwayne passed away from Cancer in late December 2022. We also lost my Grandmother Beth in the same year. She was the heart of our family and is especially missed at Christmas.
"Ultimately our losses have made Christmas a bitter-sweet time but also taught us to appreciate those loved ones around you even more."
What hopes or intentions are you carrying forward into the new year, do you have any new year’s resolutions or exciting plans?
"Every New Year I hope for a happy and healthy year ahead.
"My track record at keeping New Years resolutions is poor to say the least. I don’t think I’ve kept one for more than a month."
"I know my husband would say I could do with reducing my screen time so maybe I’ll give that a go!"
