MOAT Primary School has exciting events lined up for December.

P1 to P3 pupils are preparing to perform Shepherd Little,  a nativity celebrating the true meaning of Christmas. The entire school will come together for a Community Carol Service on December 19 at Holy Trinity Church.  In the spirit of giving the school will also be supporting a charity.

Parents of pre-school children are invited to the Stay and Play sessions on November 29, December 6 , and January 10, with a special Toddler Sense session on January 10.

The school’s Open Day on January 17 welcomes everyone to explore the Moat experience.

Over the past term the Primary School has been bustling with activity this term, embracing a wide range of learning opportunities, community events, and celebrations. Here's a look at some of the highlights:

At the start of term, parents were warmly welcomed to sessions that gave insights into their children's year group experiences. Parents of P1 and P2 pupils attended a phonological awareness evening led by Mrs. Orlaigh McCann, a speech therapist, which was both informative and enjoyable.

A Foundation Stage Play morning in November saw parents, grandparents, and friends join pupils to engage in learning through play. Meanwhile, the Roots of Empathy programme began, helping children develop emotional intelligence, alongside the introduction of Mandarin lessons and connect-and-nurture sessions for parents and staff.

P1 and P2 enjoyed visits from the Travelling Museum Northern Ireland, exploring topics like The Farm and Into Space. P2/3 took a magical trip to Erica's Fairy Forest, while the entire school participated in Outdoor Classroom Day, embracing nature as a learning environment.

Moat has also launched its Shared Education Partnership with St Ronan’s Primary School. The partnership aims to foster collaboration, mutual understanding and shared learning experiences between both schools.

Another exciting highlight for Moat Primary this term was the announcement that the school has been selected to participate in Peace Proms 2025. This prestigious event brings together thousands of children from across Northern Ireland to perform in a large-scale musical celebration of peace and unity. After half term, children involved in the Peace Proms had the opportunity to attend a rehearsal in Belfast, preparing for the grand event in March 2025 at the SSE Arena.

The children are thrilled to be part of this incredible opportunity, which will not only be a celebration of music but also an important message of peace and harmony.

A diverse range of after-school clubs and programmes has enriched pupils' experiences. These include Four Corner Coaching, Relax Kids, Clayful Minds, Scripture Union, drama, and knitting. Friday afternoon clubs offer exciting options such as crafts, Lego, singing, programming, and cookery. Regular visits from Jo-Jingles and the EA Musical Pathways team have added to the fun.

Pupils have also embraced gardening activities in the school’s polytunnel, working under the expert guidance of Mr Glenn. These sessions have provided hands-on opportunities to learn about planting, sustainability and teamwork while nurturing a love for the environment.

Sports have been a highlight for P6 and P7 pupils, who have participated in football, netball, and rugby tournaments. They look forward to more competitive opportunities in the coming months.

This term, Moat Primary marked numerous special days, including National Poetry Day, Maths Week Ireland, Roald Dahl Day, International School Library Month, and Anti-Bullying Week, where pupils wore odd socks to celebrate individuality.

Another highlight was Nursery Rhyme Week in P1 and P2, where pupils celebrated the joy of traditional nursery rhymes, engaging in fun, educational activities that helped build their language skills.

The school also hosted a PTFA Half-Term Disco, which was a great success. Parents were invited to stay and enjoy refreshments while the children had fun dancing and socializing. Funds raised from the event will support various school activities and initiatives.

These celebrations have not only supported learning but also promoted important causes, strengthening the sense of community and awareness within our school.

DLD Day (Developmental Language Disorder) was another standout, with pupils and staff raising awareness by coming to school dressed in yellow. Money was raised for this charity.

The school also held a special Harvest Service, led by P6 pupils, thanking God for His blessings. Donations for Val’s Food Pantry in Lisnaskea were received with overwhelming generosity.

The school strengthened ties with the community through events like Grandparents' Day and the Life Exhibition hosted by Fermanagh Christian Fellowship. Moat continues to work with businesses on the Time to Read initiative, fostering a love for reading.

Moat Primary School strives to embody our motto, Caring, Learning, Achieving, in everything we do. This term has been a wonderful example of our school community working together to create a nurturing, engaging, and inspiring environment for all.

The school extends gratitude to everyone who has supported us throughout the term—your care and dedication truly make a difference.
