A Londonderry man who was staying on a boat in Fermanagh during the summer had cocaine and cannabis in his possession when stopped by police at a jetty close to the Border.
On July 21 of this year at around 8pm police were on mobile patrol of the Aghalane Jetty.
They detected a smell of cannabis and went to check on the public amenities building.
They stopped Stephen Charles McCarron (41), of Moyola Drive, Londonderry coming out of the toilets and searched him.
A quantity of herbal cannabis and a bag containing white powder was located and McCarron was arrested.
He told officers he was staying on a boat at the jetty. This was searched and a further quantity of drugs was found.
McCarron was interviewed and made full admissions. He said that all the drugs belonged to him despite there being others on the boat.
In total 58.5g of cannabis, three joints and one-third of a gram of cocaine were located.
McCarron told police he got the drugs from a "fella" in the Waterside area of Londonderry.
Referring to McCarron's pre-sentence report, his barrister told the court that it was "detailed and helpful" and "honest" as he admitted to still using cannabis.
He asked the court to give McCarron credit for his full admission and guilty plea at the first opportunity adding that the amount was consistent with personal use.
For this, District Judge Alana McSorley convicted McCarron of possession of a Class A and Class B drug and handed him a three month prison sentence suspended for 12 months.
