A man who had driven just 100 metres before being stopped for drink-driving was over twice the legal limit, a court has heard.

Oisin Brennan (33), of Broom Drive, Fivemiletown, was stopped on Main Street, Tempo by police officers carrying out breathalyser tests on February 11, 2024.

It was heard at Enniskillen Magistrates Court on Monday how at 12.10am police observed the vehicle Brennan was driving approaching the checkpoint.

They stopped it and detected a smell of intoxicating liquor. The keys were removed from the vehicle and Brennan took a preliminary breath test, which he failed.

He was taken to Strabane Police Station where he gave an evidential reading of 97mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath.

Craig Patton, barrister for Brennan, told the court his client deserved full credit for the early plea and acceptance of the matter in its entirety.

He said Brennan had started driving 100 metres from the checkpoint and deeply regretted his actions.

Brennan was disqualified for 12 months and fined £350.
