A well-known and highly regarded member of the Clogher Valley community, Mrs. Martha Fannin, passed away peacefully at her home in Main Street, Clogher on December 17, 2019.
Martha was born in December 1925, the eldest daughter of Thomas and Margaret Garland.
Her main schooling was at Beltany PE School near Newtownsaville.
Martha married Albert Fannin from Cavan in 1952 and they had three children, Shirley (deceased), Heather and William.
Following several years of employment in Johnston Bros., Clogher, Martha and Albert developed their own business on Main Street, Clogher which is now the present Fannin’s Garage and Filling Station.
Martha worked hard throughout her life and was successful in many areas of business. This was testified at the very busy family home over the period of her wake and by the very large crowd who attended her funeral service.
Martha was actively involved in St. Macartan’s Cathedral; she loved to sing in the the choir and for several years she was the Cathedral’s organist.
Martha was a dedicated member of the Mother’s Union for 65 years. She was also a devoted Honorary member of Clogher Women’s Institute.
Martha’s funeral service, at St. Macartan’s Cathedral, was led by the Rector Revd Olivia Downey.
The readings were by her granddaughters, Rachel and Ruth and The Dean, the Very Revd K. Hall.
Martha is survived by her daughter Heather, son William, daughter-in-law Sharon, granddaughters Sarah, Rachel, Ruth and the wider family circle.
Funeral arrangements were carried out by SR Elliott, Enniskillen. Donations in lieu of flowers for St. Macartan’s Cathderal and ‘Fields of Life’.
