There has been widespread sadness following the death of Mrs. Phyllis Eveline Stuart who passed away peacefully, aged 94, on the evening of November 9, 2021 at the Millcroft Care Home.
Phyllis was born on December 9, 1926 to Samuel and Florence Bradshaw of Bawnboy, Co. Cavan. She was sister to Freddy. Phyllis’s father passed away when she was two years old and her mother later married William Hassard.
In 1942, the family farm was purchased at Glencunny and here Phyllis and Freddy grew up with siblings Marjorie, Gretta, Dorothy, and Ernie.
Having completed her education and a secretarial course, Phyllis took up employment in BC Stuart’s hardware shop in Cross Street, Enniskillen. It was here that she met her future husband, who also happened to be her boss! On August 2, 1948, Phyllis and Basil were married at Rossorry Parish Church and set up their first home in Darling Street before moving to Windmill Road in 1953.
Phyllis and Basil later purchased the old Rossorry Rectory and built their home at the top of the adjacent hill, along with their three children, David, John and Anita.
Basil passed away in 1991 and Phyllis resided in the family home until, due to failing health, she was admitted to the Millcroft Care Home in June 2015. David, John and Anita were regular visitors there and are most appreciative of the excellent care their mother received from all the staff.
Phyllis is best known for her unmeasured kindness and for her love of animals.
There was always an array of pets, both wild and domestic, at her home and she helped many animals further afield through generous donations to various animal charities. She always counted herself fortunate to have had many good friends, who frequently called at her home and to visit her at Millcroft. She was an excellent baker, cook and a keen gardener, winning many prizes for her beautiful daffodils.
She was a precious and cherished grandmother and great-grandmother and leaves these younger generations with countless happy memories of the fun they had together. Phyllis enjoyed travelling in her younger years but home was where her heart belonged and she always made her family her first priority.
Phyllis’s funeral took place on Friday, November 12, 2021 at Rossorry Parish Church.
The hymns were All Things Bright and Beautiful, Abide with Me and soloist Kerry Elliott sang, Danny Boy. Phyllis was the last living wife of the Stuart brothers, Bobby, Benny and Basil.
The funeral was respectfully conducted by Austen Stinson, W.T. Morrison, Enniskillen. “I thank God for you” (2 Timothy 1:3 NLT)
