Mrs. Lisa McCahery
There was great sadness, shock and disbelief felt by the family and friends of Lisa McCahery (nee Muldoon) throughout Fermanagh and especially in the communities of Arney and Enniskillen following her sudden and untimely death last month.
Lisa who was 40 years old, died suddenly at home in Arney on December 17, 2022.
Born in Enniskillen on March 6, 1982 where she lived during her childhood years, Lisa was the eldest and much loved daughter of Caroline Reilly and the first grandchild of the late Paddy and Mary Reilly, Enniskillen and Joe and Josie Muldoon, Bonnybrook, Lisbellaw.
Family was very important to Lisa and she’d regularly check in on her mother, brothers, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. With her bubbly personality you were always guaranteed a laugh in her company and she’d never leave without offering her big, warm hug. Her presence in all their lives will be greatly missed.
Lisa had a special relationship with her grandmother Mary, who passed away five years ago and they would be spotted regularly at bingo nights, or dancing the night away at music nights in Charlie’s or the Crowes Nest.
She also adored her grandparents Joe and Josie, and as a child would often walk from Castlecoole to Bonnybrook to visit them.
Lisa attended St Theresa’s primary and Mount Lourdes Grammar School where she made many lifelong friends. She loved to travel and in 2001, aged just 19 she went to Pittsburgh in the USA with the Prince’s Trust and was in the country during the fateful 9/11 attacks in New York.
On her return home she confided in her family how frightening the experience had been for her and her group of companions.
Shortly after her return from the USA, Lisa met Gavin McBrien and together they had two children. Caitlin and Darren were the pride and joy of her life and she would have done anything for them.
Only two weeks before her death, she celebrated her daughter Caitlin’s 19th birthday with family and friends. Little did anyone know then that these would be some of the last memories the family would make together.
Lisa married Gerard McCahery just over a year ago in St Michael’s Parish Church, Enniskillen. The couple had been together for six years prior, but their marriage was delayed three times due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Finally the couple exchanged their vows on September 16, 2021 and spent their honey moon in Benalmadena, Spain.
As an avid sun worshipper, Benalmadena was Lisa’s favourite hotspot and she really looked forward to her regular breaks in the sun here. And being so family orientated, it wasn’t just her and Gerry on their honeymoon, she also invited her mother and daughter along with them.
A huge lifelong fan of Take That, Lisa had made plans to travel to London in July this year to see them in concert. In a fitting tribute, the Take That song 'Rule the World' was played at the graveside during her burial on Thursday, December 22, 2022.
An avid Liverpool supporter, it was also fitting that her coffin was adorned with a magnificent bouquet of red and white flowers.
Lisa is survived by her husband Gerry, children Caitlin and Darren, mother Caroline, brothers Ciaran (Elaine) and Lee, grandparents Joe and Josie, aunts, uncles, 16 cousins and nephew Caelan. Lisa’s mother and family wish to thank everyone who supported them during their time of loss and to everyone who attended Lisa’s funeral. Your kindness was a source of great comfort. Sincere appreciation also to Monsignor Peter O’Reilly for officiating Lisa’s requiem Mass, John McKeegan, Undertaker and the gravediggers.
Lisa’s month’s mind Mass will take place in St Michael’s Church on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at 6pm.
