The Magheracross Annual Triples competition took place in the first week of September with 55 triples taking part over the four qualifying nights with eight triples contesting the finals night. The entries were slightly down on last year’s competition but still a good variety of bowlers from over the numerous zones took part.
On the final’s night, Kevin Conroy’s triple from Redeemer beat Coa’s Brendan Donnelly triple 7–6 after a tied end, Diarmuid McMahon, Carrickmacross beat another triple skipped by Fra McCabe from the Oriel Zone 8–0, Stuart McSorley’s triple from Ardstraw beat Gary Brian’s triple from Magheracross 8–6 and Karol Bradshaw, St. Joseph’s beat Gary McNabb Trory 8-7.
In the semi final Kevin beat Diarmuid 6-2 and Karol beat Stuart 7–4.
The final was hotly contested with the triple of Michael McGrade, Niall Cox, Karol Bradshaw against the triple of Billy Taffe, Sean Conroy and Kevin Conroy with the Redeemer players taking the spoils 6–4.
Ater the final had been played, the Chairman, Mr Sidney Parkinson thanked everyone for supporting the tournament, the ladies of the club for their very welcome cup of tea every night and then called upon Mrs Anne Brian, the club secretary, to come forward to present the prizes.
During the week of the competition, the club lost a dear and very valued member Miss Gladys Nixon, the Western Zone wishes to pass on there deepest sympathy to the club and to Gladys’ family.
