Western’s Men team travel to Corduff this Saturday, October 24 to take on Oriel in the first round of this year’s Inter Zone competition.
In a repeat of last year’s final, the Western men will be looking to overturn the result when they were edged out in an entertaining final. Despite leading by 13 shots at the interval, Western were unable to hold on to their advantage, and went down by 14 shots overall to a very strong Oriel side.
Western’s hopes have been further hindered this year with six players who took part in last year’s final unable to play for varying reasons. The selectors have turned to experience for what promises to be a very tough game, by drafting in five players with previous zone experience, and only one new face in Eric Doogan Jnr from the Rossorry club. Doogan had an impressive 14/15 season with consistent performances in the Fermanagh League and also skipping his triple to success in Wellington triples competition.
Full team is as follows; Rink 1: David Ferguson, David Dickson, Rodney Kelly, Jude Morris.
Rink 2: William Stevenson, Trevor Brians, Johnny Breadon, David Graham.
Rink 3: Harry Gawley, Daniel Wilson, William Harpur, Ronald Stubbs.
Rink 4: Ivor Armstrong, Eric Doogan Jnr, Niall Cox, Karol Bradshaw.
Rink 5: Derek Gilliland, Trevor Morrison, Michael McGrade Jnr, Gary Burke.
Rink 6: Roly Nixon, Norman Noble, Ian McElroy, Alan Graham.
A bus will be leaving the Forum Car Park at 11.15am sh arp to travel to the game. If any supporter would like to travel to the game, please contact Harold Nixon on 02866 341223.
