Western pair Esther Forster and Ronnie Stubbs were part of the Ireland A team who claimed this year’s British Isles team title at the weekend.
Both players were on top form all weekend, and together with Terry Crawford and William Boggs, the local duo managed to win all six of their games against England, Scotland and Wales.
Ireland also managed to claim the full international team event in a successful weekend for Irish bowls.
Men in second round action
The Western Men’s team are in action again this Saturday when they take on North West in the second round of the Inter-Zone competition in Enniskillen.
After a close encounter with Foyle last time out, the local side will be hoping to make home advantage count against a strong North West side. The visitors had an impressive win last time out against last year’s winners Mid Ulster and will be confident.
Western have been boosted by the return of two important players, Johnny Breadon and Jude Morris. Breadon will take the number two spot for Ronald Stubbs, whilst the experienced Morris comes straight back in at skip in place of Michael McGrade.
