Last weekend saw the first round of the United Kingdom’s Thundersport series at Donington Park just outside Derby which saw leading riders from all over the United Kingdom compete in the series in various classes over two days.
In the highly competitive Stocktwin class Tamlaght’s Matthew McGowan was competing in his first outing in England after his debut season last year in the USBK Series in Northern Ireland
Matthew, 23, who qualified in a very respectable seventh place on his Suzuki 650 then went on to produce a barnstorming performance in coming home in second place in wet conditions less than a second behind the winner Robert Childs on another Suzuki 650.
Race two on Saturday was red flagged after six laps and the race result was given after lap five which saw Matthew come home in a very respectable seventh after a jump start which gave him a 10 second penalty.
Sunday’s two races seen Matthew come away with a fourth and fifth place respectively and his pace improved as the weekend moved on. Next for Matthew will see him compete at the iconic Mallory Park circuit on September 5-6.
