The latest round of the British Mini Bike Championship took place at Wigan with local man Craig Scollan in action.
This was his first taste of racing on the mainland where he came up against some of the best riders that the UK has to offer along with a number of top international road racers such as James Hillier and Dominic Herbertson.
Due to the Covid-19 outbreak the season was late to get started and social distancing measures where in place to protect the riders and with no spectators allowed to enter it didn’t dampen the enthusiasm for the riders.
Saturday saw all day practice and Craig was out in no fewer than eight sessions, four on his 140cc stock machine and four in the 160cc which he was using for extra seat time due to having never been at the track before.
He managed to get down to 1.06 with a average lap of 65mph.
The Fermanagh man only managed to get one full race in on Sunday and managed to claim a very respectable 14th place finish after he had to start at the back of the field due to transponder issues.
The event was stopped during the 140cc race when a rider had to be taken by air ambulance to the local hospital and the meeting was brought to a close, thankfully Nathan Gardener only suffered minor damage to his shoulder and spinal muscles.
