Kesh Primary School pupil, Max Jones (7) on board his KTM 50 competed in the Round 3 of the MCCNI championship at Clunty MX Park, Cookstown on Saturday.
The track, although dry and dusty, was in fantastic shape which made for some great racing against another full line-up of 25 riders in the Auto class.
In Race one, Max started strongly exiting turn one in second place. He rode hard pulling away in a small cluster of riders settling in fourth position from lap one until the chequered flag. He got another good start in Race two, mixing it up with the front runners, riding in fourth position again.
Two separate incidents ahead gifted Max second position and he put in some great lap times as he tried his best to hold position but was passed on the penultimate lap finishing a well-deserved third position.
In Race three, Max dropped the bike rounding a tight corner in the first lap, losing a lot of ground and putting him way down the pack. He picked the bike up and chased as hard as could, picking up several places and eventually finishing in seventh spot. Although spent by the end, Max showed great character, ability, and determination.
With best two results out of three races, Max finished the day with a fourth and third giving him fourth overall on the day and moving him up to fourth overall in the championship standings with three more rounds to go.
